James leads the strategy and product engineering of Zopa’s core banking products and apps across lending, savings, wealth, and current accounts. Before joining Zopa, he held senior product leadership roles at Moonpig, helping scale its digital products to more than 11 million active customers and contributing to the company’s IPO in 2021. Earlier in his career, he built e-commerce products for Sainsbury’s.

James reflects on why finance remains an "unsolved problem" for much of the country, how the best digital products earn trust by blending seamlessly into the background, and the role of AI, personalisation and a culture of experimentation — even within a regulated environment — in making money management genuinely simpler for customers.
