Meet The Daemonite: Aparna Kulkarni

Hi, I’m Aparna, currently working as a Consultant at Daemon. My journey with Daemon began in 2022, and it has been a great experience.

How did your career begin?

Computer science sparked my interest in high school, leading me to pursue a Computer Science Engineering degree. My first job was with a consulting company in India, where I also completed an internship. This role involved working with clients across different business areas and traveling to Europe and the USA.

After a few career moves, including working for a startup in the US and a consulting firm in the UK, I took a break to focus on my family. I always planned to return to tech, and the Techreturners program, in collaboration with Daemon, provided the perfect opportunity. My core skill is Java, and I have worked with various Java frameworks over the years, currently focusing on Spring Boot.

What is your day-to-day life like at Daemon?

My work day starts with a morning standup to discuss the previous day's tasks, current day's plans, and any issues. In my latest engagement, I worked on developing the reference data system for a financial services institution. This was an exciting opportunity as I worked on the project from development and liaising with the BA to the application launch, support, and training of the support team. It is always rewarding to see an application successfully launched and working collaboratively with different teams to make it happen.
Additionally, I am an active member of Daemon's internal Wellbeing Group, where we meet fortnightly to explore ways to support and enhance the wellbeing of Daemonites.

What advice would you give to others?

To anyone starting, I would say to make the most of the online resources and courses to learn and build your skills. Attending tech conferences and networking can lead to helpful connections and inspiration. Software development is constantly changing, so be prepared to learn and adapt.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I spend time with my family, particularly my two boys, planning activities and schedules around them. I enjoy exploring local walking trails and nature. I also enjoy gardening. Watching something we have planted take root, grow, and bloom brings me a quiet, yet immense joy.

An interesting fact about me is that I enjoy teaching kids. I have taught my son and a few kids in the community to read and write in Marathi, my first language.
Looking ahead, I aim to continue developing my skills and proficiency. I am interested in current AI trends and how to incorporate them to improve productivity.
